Marcos is no hero

Saying that former dictator Ferdinand Marcos is no hero, young anti-Marcos activists donning superhero costumes said Monday morning that burying the convicted human rights violator at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is tantamount to rewriting history.

“Sila ang tunay na hero, si Marcos zero,” said Akbayan nominee Francis Isaac, referring to the superhero creative action his group conducted in Quezon City to protest the resolution filed by former Marcos agriculture minister and currently Sorsogon Representative Salvador Escudero III.

Isaac, together with young activists wearing costumes of Batman, Robin, 'Spiderman, Supergirl and The Flash, Akbayan Party protested the resolution and promised to stop the proposed hero burial of Marcos.

Isaac is confident that young Filipinos who never experienced the dictatorship are aware of the Marcos regime's crimes, how the dictatorship wrought havoc to the lives of thousand who opposed them and how the whole country suffered under its brutal rule.

Marcos ruled with an iron hand during the 14-year dictatorship. After his ouster in 1986 through the EDSA People Power uprising, the Marcoses left the country with billions of foreign debt and a bankrupt national treasury.

Recently, a US court ruled in favor of the human rights victims during the Marcos regime, giving the victims and the relatives monetary compensation.

(end)
