“No man can serve two masters.”
For Akbayan Party, Atty. Midas Marquez should learn from that biblical passage as he is increasingly seen in public not as the High Court’s Administrator and Spokesperson but as "point guard” in the defense of Chief Justice Renato Corona in the impeachment process.
“Sino ba ang boss ni Atty. Marquez? Ang sambayanang Pilipino o si CJ Corona? That he spends all his time actively defending Corona in this impeachment trial is a travesty of public service,” Bello commented.
According to Bello, it is clear that Marquez has given up administering the Supreme Court, and has instead administered the Corona impeachment team. This was especially evident when the news broke out that Marquez blamed the temporary disabling of cell phone services to ensure the safety of the Black Nazarene procession for delaying the convening of Corona’s communication team.
“Tila gulung-gulo si Marquez sa dami ng trabaho niya, convenor ba naman ng communications team ni Corona, kasabay ng pagiging Court Administrator at Spokesperson. Kailangan na niya sigurong mag-focus sa isa lang,” Bello criticized Marquez. “And even his incompetence in that task, he blames on the procession of religious devotees.”
In order to sort out this confusion, and for the good of the Supreme Court, Bello has one advice for Marquez, “Resign.”
“Already, we have a Chief Justice who, in his lack of integrity, has pledged himself to the service of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo under the guise of public service. And here emerges Marquez in the very likeness of his superiors,” Bello concluded. “Marquez’ reputation and credibility is stained, and it will get worse because it is not likely that he will shut up. He should very well follow his heart’s desire to serve Corona. And in order to do that, he must resign.”###
