The Akbayan party-list group today assailed the camp of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for claiming that there is a plot to do harm to the former president.
“The claim of Arroyo spokesperson Ma. Elena Bautista Horn that there is a conspiracy called “Put the little girl to sleep” to silence Arroyo is a diversionary tactic pure and simple. We do not believe there is such a conspiracy,” Akbayan spokesperson Risa Hontiveros said.
“The supposed plot is obviously the figment of over-fertile minds in her camp who have simply ran out of arguments to answer the very serious allegations of plunder, electoral sabotage and human rights violations against her,” Hontiveros said.
“As far as we are concerned, the only existing oplan is the oplan of the Filipino people to put the little girl guilty of committing big, bad things in jail,” Hontiveros said.
“The Arroyo camp has become so desperate that they are now resorting to fabricating tall tales to divert public attention from the various charges against her,” Hontiveros said.
“There is enough solid evidence against Arroyo for electoral sabotage, not to mention numerous cases of plunder and human rights violations, to put her in jail for a long, long time,” she added.
“If there’s one thing that will do Arroyo in, it’s the tangled web of barefaced lies and outright deception spun by her camp to keep her out of prison,” Hontiveros explained.
“The lies from the Arroyo camp have not stopped. First they said she suffers from a life-threatening bone illness requiring urgent medical treatment abroad, a claim later belied by her own doctor who said she is fit to be discharged from hospital,” the former Akbayan representative said.
“Now that her supposed life-threatening medical condition has been unmasked as a ploy to go abroad and avoid prosecution, the Arroyo camp wants the public to believe that she faces a real threat to her physical safety,” Hontiveros pointed out.
“The purported conspiracy called ‘Put the little girl to sleep’ is so laughable that media has wisely decided not to give it precious column inches or air time. Nonetheless, I believe we should warn the public about similar diversionary tactics aimed at evading the real issue, which is her accountability for serious crimes during her term,” Hontiveros said.
“They should stop the incredible and foolish tales of a conspiracy against her. Her lawyers should be brushing up on legal arguments to defend their client when she is brought to court to explain her side,” the Akbayan spokesperson said. * * *
