Akbayan to Mike Arroyo: Attend Senate hearing or you’re all mouth and no trousers

“Walk the talk.”

This was the statement issued today by Akbayan Party on the “feisty” statement issued by former first gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo upon his arrival in Manila concerning accusations leveled against him on the controversial helicopters which he owned and allegedly sold to the Philippine National Police as brand-new units.

“We are glad that Mr. Arroyo is back, well and in fighting form. However, we cannot help but surmise that the former first gentleman can only talk a good game but cannot back himself up. He boldly claimed that he is innocent, yet, he is not confident to personally defend himself in the senate hearing, and instead relies heavily on his lawyers,” Akbayan Spokesperson Risa Hontiveros said.

Hontiveros urged Arroyo to be “consistent with his words and actions.”

“If the former first gentleman’s camp can issue forceful statements, I am sure Mike Arroyo can do better in his own person. Talk is cheap. We urge him to walk the talk. He should attend the senate hearing. If he is sure of his innocence, then he should subject himself to the scrutiny of a legislative investigation. Otherwise, he’s all mouth and no trousers,” Hontiveros said.

Arroyo arrived in Manila on Monday and said that “he is now ready to defend himself" from accusations hurled against him by his “detractors.”

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has summoned the former presidential spouse to attend its investigation of the two Arroyo family-owned helicopters, which were alleged sold as brand new to the PNP in 2009. ###
